Some numbers from my tests conducted January 12, 2012
Started with 4 ounces of HEET yellow bottle.
Starting water temperature was about 35 degrees. Air temperature was 30 degrees.
I used two, 2 cup Foster's pot with lids. As soon as a boil was acheived I switched over to a waiting pot of water. While the next pot was heating I emptied the boiling water and waited till the pot cooled to air temp and then filled it to be used again when the next boil occured.
I started the tests at 7:00 PM
First boil achieved at 7:16 and did the change over
Second boil achieved at 7:38 and did the change over.
Third boil achieved at 7:54 and did the change over.
4th and final boil achieved at 8:16
Flame out occured at 8:20
windscreen was about 1" away from edge of pot compared to 1/4 inch away when I did the tests with the Kmart grease pots. You can see the difference in the total length of burn time between the two testings.
Total amount of water boiled: 8 cups
Pot support was 3 inches high. Made of 1/2" galvanized hardware cloth.
A simmer device can be made from bottle cap of another can of energy drink. I will not furnish simmer caps because I don't think many people would use them. The ones that do simmer will be able to make their own by drilling a 1/2" hole in the top of it. Or use a 1/2" punch.
